Hood, duct, and exhaust fan cleaning to bare metal is required by NFPA 96 on a set schedule, from monthly for solid fuel cooking to annually for low-volume operations. Insurers and fire marshals ask for the certificate after each cleaning, so use a company that provides documentation and photos.

Warranty and pricing terms taken from the companies’ own websites.
A cheaper rate with nothing behind it can cost more than a dearer one
with ninety days of cover.
Companies not listed here may still stand behind their work without
publishing a period, which is worth asking on the phone. A 24/7 claim
is what a company publishes, not something we have tested by calling
at night.
Fault code tables for this equipment
If there is a code on the display, look it up before you call. Knowing
the code, and whether it points at a probe or a heater or a water
supply, changes what the technician brings with them.
It depends on cooking volume and fuel: monthly for solid fuel, quarterly for high-volume operations like 24-hour or charbroiling kitchens, semiannually for moderate volume, and annually for low-volume operations. Our NFPA 96 guide explains the schedule and the inspection stickers fire marshals look for.
What documentation should a hood cleaning company leave?
A certificate or sticker showing the service date and the areas cleaned to bare metal, which your fire marshal and insurance carrier can ask to see. Reputable companies also photograph before and after. Keep the records with your fire suppression inspection paperwork.
