Commercial Dish Machine Repair: Costs and Common Problems

Published 08.03.2026. Written for restaurant operators and kitchen managers.

A dish machine that will not sanitise is a health inspection problem as well as an operations one, which is why these calls rarely wait. Many faults are cheap; the expensive ones are almost always water quality catching up with the machine.

What actually fails, cheapest first

What repairs typically cost

These are planning ranges, not quotes. Almost nobody in this directory publishes a rate, one coffee specialist being the exception, and pricing varies by market, brand, access and time of day. Use them to judge whether a quote is in the right region, then read the published terms further down, because those are the part a company commits to in writing.

Arm cleaning, curtains, seals and switches usually land in the low hundreds including the call. Thermostats and elements typically run into the mid hundreds. Wash pumps and booster heater work sit higher and can approach four figures on larger machines. Before approving major work on an older machine, check whether it is leased or chemical-supplier maintained, because the bill may not be yours to pay.

Two costs the invoice never shows: the downtime while you wait, and the stock or covers you lose. Our downtime cost calculator puts a number on the first, and the repair or replace calculator applies the half-rule to the second.

Before you call

Some faults have a check you can do first. Our diagnostic guide covers the checks worth making before you pay for a call-out, and what to have ready when you do call: make, model, serial number, what changed and when.

Prevention

Deliming on a schedule is the single highest-return maintenance task on a dish machine in hard water, and daily arm and curtain cleaning prevents a large share of service calls outright.

Most of the expensive failures above are the end of a cheap one that was left alone. Our preventive maintenance checklist covers the intervals.

What companies actually put in writing

Published repair cost ranges are estimates. What is not an estimate is the terms a company commits to in writing, and those vary more than most operators expect. These are taken from the companies’ own websites while verifying 117 listings, and are worth reading before you approve work, because a cheaper hourly rate with no warranty can cost more than a dearer one with ninety days behind it.

Who fixes this, and what we checked

This directory lists 72 companies that repair dish machine equipment across Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Every one of them had its website opened and read by a person rather than scraped, which is how we found the parked domains, wrong phone numbers and closed businesses documented on our verification findings page.

  • 72 verified companies
  • 34 confirmed by a phone call
  • 55 publish 24/7 or emergency cover
  • 3 publish a licence number you can check

A published 24/7 claim is what the company says, not what we have proven. We are testing those claims by calling them after hours and will publish what actually happens. Until then, treat the promise as a promise.

Is there a code on the display? Look it up before you call: Hobart, Jackson, Stero. Knowing the code changes what the technician brings with them.
