Ohio licenses refrigeration contractors, which is unusual
Ohio is one of the few states that licenses a distinct Refrigeration Contractor trade alongside HVAC, electrical, plumbing and hydronics, through the Ohio Construction Industry Licensing Board for commercial work. That means a licence claim from an Ohio company is both meaningful and checkable through the Ohio Department of Commerce. Ohio does not license residential contractors at all, so a company that works both sides may hold a commercial licence without any residential credential.
One requirement applies everywhere regardless of state: anyone opening a refrigerant circuit needs federal EPA Section 608 certification. If a company offers to work on a sealed system without it, that is a reason to call someone else.
How coverage works in Ohio
Most companies dispatch from a branch city and cover a wide radius, so a company listed under one metro often serves surrounding counties too. Each listing shows the service area the company states itself, and where a company is based outside the metro it markets into, we say so and note the distance.
If your equipment is under warranty, start with the manufacturer's factory service branch or authorized partner. For out-of-warranty repairs and maintenance contracts, independents are often faster and more flexible.
