Scotsman Prodigy ice machine Error Codes
Applies to: Prodigy series cubers. Compiled and paraphrased from Scotsman's own Prodigy Series Modular Cuber Technical Service Manual (January 2015, including Prodigy Plus), published on scotsman-ice.com, covering models C0322 through C2148. That manual supplies the code display legend, the flashing-versus-steady distinction, the control safeties (45 minute max freeze, 6 minute min freeze, 3.5 minute max harvest, 50 minute reset interval with two automatic retries, 5 minute max water fill retried every 20 minutes, 250F max discharge, 4 minute minimum compressor off time), the thermistor resistance values and the spillway procedure. Flaked and nugget Prodigy machines are a different control with a different code set; confirm against the service manual for your exact model. Table last updated Aug 14, 2026.
How to read the codes
Scotsman's Prodigy controller shows a single character, and WHETHER IT FLASHES OR IS STEADY is half the diagnosis: flashing means the controller is retrying, steady means it has given up and shut the machine down. A steady 1, 2 or 8 needs a MANUAL RESET and will not recover on its own. Before reading anything as a fault, check it is not a status letter (F, H, b, C, L, d, O) or the water purge setting, which also appears in the same display as a number 1 to 5 or the letter A. To recall history: hold the Off button for 3 seconds, release, then press and release the Harvest button to step through the last ten codes, most recent first; hold Clean and Harvest together for 3 seconds to clear them. NOTE THE BUTTON DIFFERENCE BY SERIES: on Prodigy Plus D series machines Scotsman's documentation uses the CLEAN button to step through the stored codes rather than Harvest, so if one button does nothing try the other before assuming the log is empty.

| 8 | Short freeze, thin ice. FLASHING means retrying; STEADY means shut down | Min freeze time is 6 MINUTES. If the machine calls for harvest within 20 seconds of that minimum, the controller harvests for a preset time and IGNORES the curtain switch. If it happens again within the next three cycles the machine shuts down and needs a manual reset. Scotsman's own list of causes puts the ice thickness sensor first, then a restricted water distributor, then A DIRTY SPILLWAY, then a bridge set too thin. The spillway is the one nobody checks: irregular water flow across it lets water touch the sensor early, which reads as finished ice when there is almost none. Harvest triggering too early, commonly a dirty or scaled ice thickness sensor, water splashing on the sensor from scale in the distributor, or sensor misadjustment | Clean the ice thickness sensor, separating the metal sensor from the plastic insulator bracket and descaling both.
