Commercial Kitchen Equipment Lifespans
Commonly cited service life ranges for well-maintained commercial equipment. Treat them as planning numbers, not promises: duty cycle, water quality, and maintenance dominate, and a neglected unit can die in half the range while a cared-for one doubles it. The pattern across the table: water-touching equipment (ice, steam, espresso, warewashing) lives or dies by water treatment, and refrigeration lives or dies by condenser cleanliness. Both are controllable, which is the entire argument for preventive maintenance.
How to use these numbers
These are typical ranges under normal commercial use, not guarantees. Two identical units can differ by years depending on water quality, cleaning discipline and how hard the kitchen runs. Use the range as the input to a repair-or-replace decision rather than as a prediction: once a unit is past roughly three quarters of its expected life, the threshold for replacing rather than repairing drops sharply.
